Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study meets on Wednesday mornings from 10-11:45 am in the Fireside Room. The class is led by a rotating group of lay women. The class is always enlightening, high spirited and fun! Whether you are new to exploring the Bible or you already know the Bible inside and out, you are welcome to join group and are sure to discover something new.

For more information, please contact the church office at 707.823.2484 or email the church office.

Women's Fellowship

Women's Fellowship is open to all women and has been a big part of The Community Church since the church was first established in Sebastopol in 1890. The group was originally formed to offer women a chance to meet, enjoy their faith together and to provide a core group to manage the church kitchen duties! Although the women still manage a great many kitchen duties, the group has expanded to include numerous outreach projects, both within the church and our wider community.

Women's Fellowship Monthly Meeting Schedule

Women's Fellowship meets once a month as a group on the third Thursday of the month. The Women's Fellowship Executive Board begins the officers meeting at 10 am, followed by a general meeting in the Fireside Room at 10:30. After a brief business meeting and devotionals, a program is presented, followed by a luncheon at noon in Fellowship Hall. Programs range from community speakers, craft projects to musical presentations and educational programs.

Women's Fellowship holds two large fund raisers each year, offering handmade projects, plants, jams and baked goods to the congregation and visitors. Workshops are scheduled on the first and second Thursday of the month to prepare for the sales, while many of the projects are competed at home throughout the year.

On the fourth Thursday of the month, the smaller groups, or Circles, meet at the homes of members for discussions, projects, fellowship and prayer.

Between Women - Intergenerational Gathering

Between Women meets on the second Saturday of the month. Starting at 8:40 am for a Continental Breakfast with Discussion from 9-11 am.

The next scheduled meeting for Between Women is Saturday, June 8. We will meet in the new Pilgrim Center - in the Chapel and Media Room.

This is our 12th year of celebrating Between Women and we invite all women to join us on the second Saturday each month in the Fireside Room. Each meeting stands independently, our group is fluid, so whether you can attend every month or just occasionally, you are always welcomed by an intergenerational group of gals. We discuss, we share, we listen, we talk, we eat and we have FUN! Please mark you calendars and reserve the second Saturday for Between Women.

Are you new to the Community Church? Would you like to know more about Between Women? Or perhaps you have a friend you would like to bring to Between Women? ALL women are welcome and you need not be a member of the Community Church (or any church!). For more information, please contact Virginia Hughes or Marie Cotton or call the church office at 823-2484. You may also inquire by email.

Communicating with the Divine

In her book, “Help, Thanks, Wow”, author Anne Lamott describes prayer as “communication from one’s heart to God.” But how, exactly, do we communicate? Have you ever started to pray only to realize that you’re thinking about paying the bills? Do you ever fumble for the right words to say to God, and then deem the effort hopeless? Does prayer feel like a joy or an obligation to add to your already busy calendar?

During our weekend together, we will investigate the many different ways we might communicate with the divine, sharing both the joys and the struggles of finding space in our lives to spend time with God.

FACILITATOR: Bethany Nelson is currently the Director of Youth Ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon. She is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. Having worked in ministry for the last 15 years, she has led a variety of classes, retreats, and workshops for both youth and adults. She led our retreat in June 2010.

WELCOME: We welcome all women to this retreat—members and friends of our church family and their friends and families—and look forward to spending a wonderful weekend with you. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions.

FEE: Your fee for the weekend is $190. The fee is non-refundable after July 1st. The actual cost for the facility and the food is approximately $280 per person.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Funds are available for ANYONE (you don’t have to be part of the church family) who wishes to attend. Fund raisers are held and donations made for this specific purpose so, please, do not stay home due to financial considerations. We want every woman to have the chance to experience a retreat. You may pay it back at some future time if you so desire, however, just know this is OUR GIFT TO YOU. Scholarship information is kept confidential. Contact Nancy Shimetz (see committee list below).

FACILITY: We have exclusive use of the facility. It is located on the Russian River in a very beautiful setting, within walking distance to Duncans Mills. There are cabins with two beds per room and enough cabins that you can choose to be alone or have a roommate. Bathrooms are separate from the cabins, however, there is one building containing several rooms and a bathroom with showers. This will be for those of you for whom walking any distance at night to the bathroom is a problem.

REGISTRATION: To register, simply complete and send in the registration form. (PDF) The maximum number of participants is 32.

Faithfully,

Women’s Retreat Committee
