THE INTER-CHURCH FOOD PANTRY

Earlier this year, the Inter-Church Food Pantry put out a plea for help to local churches and the community.  Incoming funds had been in a steady decline over the past few years while numbers of folks being served by the pantry were staying the same or increasing during that same time.

It is time now to say “Thank You” many times over!  Members of this church, as well as service groups within the community, other local churches and individuals have come forward with funds to fill our coffers so we are once again able to keep our shelves full and available to those in need within our community.  In addition, members of The Love Choir, The Third Sunday Band and The Sanctuary Singers presented a Thanksgiving Concert with half the proceeds to the Food Pantry.  Marianne Williamson’s recent presentation and subsequent book sales provided a donation to the food pantry as well.

Those of us who serve on the board of the food pantry feel very blessed by the generosity of all who contribute.  It seems that when our needs are made known, the community and our church in particular step up to the plate to help out.  Again, thank you for your generosity!!

At a recent Board Meeting, Steve Beck reported that the pantry has served 5,608 individuals through November of 2004.  This is up from 5,128 individuals during the same period in 2003—an increase of 9.4%.  The number of food boxes distributed between January and November was 1,322, an increase of 2.6% over the same period in 2003.  These figures seem to indicate that we are seeing more people in need and that the family size is getting bigger.

Did you know that Diana Godwin was recently elected to the Food Pantry board as secretary and that Norma Taddiucci is the coordinator of Saturday volunteers and Steve Beck serves as Co-Chairperson and Statistician?  The Community Church is well represented here!                                      Linda Roa, Treasurer
