SOL Nicaragua Mission Trip
Thirteen people will participate in the Seeds of Learning Mission Trip to Nicaragua from June 11-22: Joyce Cox, Jim & Nancy Dempsey, Sara Downing & daughter Eva, Pat Furber, Andrea Furber, Gene Nelson, Brian Plaugher & son Joe, Karin Seder and David & Suzanne White. The group will be commissioned in church on Sunday, June 11 and leave later that evening.
Their worksite will be in the small village of El Jobo, just outside Ciudad de Darío – about 2 hours north of the capital city, Managua. Annie, the Director of SOL, described the area of El Jobo, where we will be constructing an additional classroom for a community that serves over 100 students.
The group will also visit Mira Flor, a coffee co-op located in the mountains north of Ciudad de Darío as well as afternoon excursions to local farms and industries.
At Sunday services on June 25, the group will lead worship, sharing reflections about their trip to Nicaragua.
As you have read above, both Gene Nelson and Karin Seder, as well Financial Secretary Suzanne White, will be in Nicaragua from June 12 – 22. Nancy Shimetz, our former church secretary and office manager, will be filling in for Karin. Nancy will come into the office for a few days and will also be checking message and returning phone calls. Office hours will be sporadic and your patience is appreciated.
The Rev. John Simmons will be preaching and leading worship on Sunday, June 18th, and will also be “on call” for any pastoral needs that might arise. You can leave a message for John with Nancy or call him directly at 823-6517. Rev. Nelson will be back in the office on Friday, June 23rd.
