Annual Meeting Report
The Annual Meeting of The Community Church was held in Memorial Hall following worship on January 29. Close to 150 people attended, making it one of our largest Annual Meetings ever! Perhaps the wonderful tri-tip and chicken barbequed by Roger Collins had something to do with that. Moderator Elyse Mengle called the meeting to order and the following actions were taken:
w Approved an operating budget of $370,097
w Elected Kathy Bell as moderator, Jeff Boal as vice-moderator, Barbara Deedler as clerk, and Sharon Elder as new member-at-large. Also accepted the nominating committee slate of members for the various church boards.
w Approved the hiring of a person to direct our Youth and Christian Education programs. This will be a ¾ time position and will begin on July 1st. Trustees and Personnel Committee were instructed to look into providing benefits for this new position.
w Approved the re-structuring of Diaconate Board into three ministry teams:
o Sunday morning team which will provide ushers, lay readers, greeters, serve communion, order candles, etc.
o Hospitality team which will reach out to and follow up on visitors, reflect on how to make our church even more welcoming to newcomers, and work on “shepherding” new members into the life of our church.
o Lay Pastoral Care team which will work with a coordinator and the senior minister to reach out to those who are in the hospital, recently home from the hospital, or shut-in. This team would also follow-up on church members whom we have not seen in worship for a while.
w Approved the appointment of a worship committee which would work with the senior minister and director of music to evaluate worship and music and changes we are making. It would also reflect on seasons of the church year and how we might design worship for those seasons.
The meeting concluded with honoring Elyse Mengle for her year of service as our moderator and acknowledged Harriet Jacobson for her years of faithful service as our church financial secretary.
