Progressive Religion
|
Join us on Tuesday evening, April 25 at 7 PM in the Sanctuary for an evening with Delwin Brown and his views on Progressive Religion.
There is something new on the horizon of
American Protestantism…. Progressive Religion. What is it, where does it co
me
from, what is it saying? Could it give churches like ours something to say in
the face of an aggressive Religious Right, which many of us consider neither
religious nor right?
On Tuesday, April 25th, at 7:00 P.M., Dr. Delwin Brown, dean emeritus of Pacific School of Religion, will be at The Community Church and will share his insights into the Progressive Religion movement. Dr. Brown, who was recently one of the keynote speakers at the Earl Lectures in Berkeley, has lectured widely on this topic and is an effective and well-known speaker. It promises to be an entertaining and enlightening evening. Plan to join us on April 25th.
Speaker Series: Exploring Islam
What is happening in the Muslim world?
On Monday, March 13 at 7 PM please join us in the church sanctuary for an interesting and informative presentation on Islam: What are the core beliefs of Islam as it relates to the politics of the Muslin world? What are the differences between the Sunnis and Shiites, especially as it plays out politically in Iraq? Why do extremists pursue violence when the Koran seems to prohibit violence? And a frank discussion of the "cartoon" issue as well as other topics concerning Islam today.
To address these issues we welcome a dynamic speaker, G. Faruq Achikzad, former UN resident coordinator in United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, and North Korea. Mr. Achikzad is currently on the board of the Afghan-American Foundation, Global Partnership for Afghanistan, The Children of War and the Chairman/CEO of the Raqim Foundation, An NGO For The Poor.
The evening promises to provide insightful information and thought-provoking discussion as we hear from Achikzad and his discerning views on what is happening in the Muslin world. This event is free and open to the public.
