Facilities Evaluation Meeting

How to utilize Pilgrim House and/or its space was considered at the time the sanctuary was built, but funds were not available to make major renovations at that time.  Plans to include its space as part of Memorial Hall were passed by the congregation, but again, finances were insufficient.

And now in 2008 the question of how to refurbish and/or replace Pilgrim House with more useable space is on the table once again.  The Facilities Evaluation Committee, under the direction of co-chairs Harry Polley and Chris Dawson, was given the green light to explore a solution to this problem by the congregation at the Annual Meeting.  The committee met February 11 and moved to investigate on two aspects.

Edwin Wilson will chair a sub-committee to evaluate Pilgrim House.  The present condition of the structure, what repairs are needed, and what is required to bring it up to current building codes are the questions this sub-committee will attempt to answer.

Meanwhile, Gary Bachelor and Jerry Warren will coordinate an assessment process in which each member of the church will be invited to register needs, desires and dreams for our campus as a whole.  With our wide congregational interests, growing youth activities and extensive outreach to the community, this process is expected to yield a wide variety of opinions.  The information gathered will be presented to the congregation.

Elyse Mengle will facilitate a communication sub-committee to keep members informed as the committee goes through the process of bringing the final proposals to the congregation for a vote.

Work is just beginning on this exciting project and members are invited to give their opinions, give consideration to the findings and continued willingness to join the efforts.
