January 4, 2009 at 9:15 Am in the Fireside Room
John Polkinghorne, in his delightful book: Quarks, Chaos and Christianity asks the question: Do we have to choose between the scientific and religious views of the world, or are they complimentary understandings that give us a fuller picture than either on their own would provide? You are invited to be a part of the discussion at a new Adult Ed class meeting 9:15 Sunday mornings in the Fireside Room starting January 4, 2009 with Jim McAllister as the facilitator. The book Quarks Chaos and Christianity is available for purchase in the church office for $10. It is suggested that you read Chapter One prior to our first meeting. The class will continue meeting on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM through the end of February. Please know that if the cost of the book prohibits you from participating in the class, we can certainly make arrangements to loan you the book. Call the church office at 823-2484 with any questions. And check out the new Community Church Book Group also sponsored by Adult Education. The Breakfast Club - meeting Sunday Mornings at 8:15 Lenten Faith Journey & Soup Suppers - Planning for 2009 Adult Ed Programs Continuing by Popular Demand: Between Women – usually held the first Saturday of the month, meeting again on January 10 at 8:45 AM in the Fireside Room. Men’s Bible Class—Thursday mornings with Gene meeting Thursday mornings at 7:30 AM in the Fireside Room. Women’s Bible Class – Wednesdays with our other Jean (Boal) at 10 AM in the Fireside Room. A NEW BOOK IN THE LIBRARY Pamela Ammondson has donated to the church library a copy of her book, CLARITY QUEST: How to Take a Sabbatical Without Taking More Than a Week Off. The book is published by Simon and Schuster, and is also available in bookstores for those who would like to purchase their own copy. From the introduction: "If you are stressed out, burned out, or simply out of energy and fresh ides, this book will show you how to recharge your batteries, assess what's genuinely important in your life, and rediscover who you are and what you really want." Pamela works with Fortune 500 and start-up companies as well as individuals. Her book is a welcome addition to the library. The Adult Education Committee has been working towards cataloguing the church library – a big job and a process that Linda McBride has been helping with. The books need to be removed from the shelves, scanned and then re-shelved in the correct location. Maybe you have a few hours here and there to help with this project – times can be arranged to suit your schedule. Please call Linda McBride or the church office if you can help. |
