Ecclesiastical Council
To meet at the Community Church
On Saturday, January 24, from 10:00 – 2:00, our church will host an Ecclesiastical Council for the Golden Gate Association of the United Church of Christ. The Golden Gate Association is a smaller geographical area of our Northern California Conference, including churches along the coast from Woodside to Eureka, and all the UCC churches in Sonoma County. One of the responsibilities of the association is to examine and then vote on candidates for ordination. This happens in an Ecclesiastical Council when clergy and lay delegates from the Association gather to hear the candidate present a paper, they ask the candidate questions, then vote on whether he or she is qualified for ordination to the ministry.
The Council on January 24th is of particular interest to us because two of the candidates presenting papers and being voted on will be Kristen DelMonte and Jean Boal. Anyone can attend, but only designated delegates and clergy can vote. Our church will also host a luncheon for all those in attendance. If you can help, perhaps by providing soup, please contact the church office. It promises to be a wonderful day, if perhaps a bit nerve-wracking for Kristen and Jean. Again, all are invited.
