The God We Never Knew

Following Pastor Gene’s Adult Ed series, another new series begins on the first Sunday of February.  The six-week series is designed to help one understand The God We Never Knew by asking questions such as:

What was your first image of God?

How did that image come to you?

Has that image affected your life in any way?

Marcus Borg’s thoughtful book of the same title will be used as a resource and is available now in the church office for $10.50.  Jim McAllister will facilitate this group, meeting Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the Fireside Room starting February 7.  through March 21.

Adult Education Series continues….Tuesday Evenings with Transitions

“Who are you?” said the Caterpillar….

“I-I  hardly know, Sir, just at present,” Alice replied rather shyly, “ at least I know who I was when I got up this morning but I think I must have changed several times since then.”  -Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Join Chris Dawson as he leads a fascinating exploration of the classic book by William Bridges; Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes.  Bridges presents a simple but provocative view of the challenging changes and transitions in our lives.  From the book:

“Transition is the way that we all come to terms with change…   …when we resist transition, we resist one or more of the three phases of its makeup.  We may resist letting go of the old; we may resist the confusion of the neutral zone state; or we may resist the uncertainties of making a risky new beginning.  We resist transition not because we can’t accept the change, but because we can’t accept letting go of that piece of ourselves that we have to give up….”

This is a four-week program from 7 PM to 8:30 PM on Tuesday nights, meeting January 26th, February 2nd, 9th and 16th in the Fireside Room.  You may sign up for the class in the church office – the book, Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes, is available in the church office for $13.

And check out the Community Church Book Group also sponsored by Adult Education.

Adult Education also sponsors the Lenten Faith Journey & Soup Supper starting February 21.

Church Library News

A NEW BOOK IN THE LIBRARY

Pamela Ammondson has donated to the church library a copy of her book, CLARITY QUEST: How to Take a Sabbatical Without Taking More Than a Week Off.  The book is published by Simon and Schuster, and is also available in bookstores for those who would like to purchase their own copy.

From the introduction:  "If you are stressed out, burned out, or simply out of energy and fresh ides, this book will show you how to recharge your batteries, assess what's genuinely important in your life, and rediscover who you are and what you really want."

Pamela works with Fortune 500 and start-up companies as well as individuals.  Her book is a welcome addition to the library.

The Adult Education Committee has been working towards cataloguing the church library – a big job and a process that Linda McBride has been helping with.  The books need to be removed from the shelves, scanned and then re-shelved in the correct location.

Maybe you have a few hours here and there to help with this project – times can be arranged to suit your schedule.  Please call Linda McBride or the church office if you can help.
