Sunday Morning Hospitality

From our Welcoming and Hospitality Committee

One of the couples in our church, recent church members, shared with Gene that when they first started attending The Community Church, they stood around during their first two coffee hours and no one spoke to them.  Fortunately they were persistent.  They waited us out and are now actively involved in our congregation.

The Hospitality Committee is asking everyone – each of us – to be more aware of visitors on Sunday morning.  Please notice the “Who’s Who in the Pew” when it comes by, and if visitors are sitting nearby, greet them and help them feel welcome.  Invite them to coffee and introduce them to someone else.  Also, introduce them to Gene.  For a visitor, coffee hour can be a lonely experience, even in a “friendly” church.  Our very faithful visitor table hostess, Diana Iverson, offers name tags to visitors.  This can be another clue to a new person in or midst.

We speak of ourselves as “open and affirming,” and as “family.” But how can a new person know that if he /she is not invited in?
