Adult Education 2010 Class

Sunday, March 14 is the final session in Borg’s book: The God We Never Knew.  Now he brings us to the question of Salvation: What on Earth Do We Mean?”  It seems that ancient Israel was not motivated by hope of an after-life.  Yet they wrote about salvation and the importance of taking God seriously – in the here and now.  Could it be that salvation has to do with what happens in this life – like taking God seriously?  We’ll close the series by considering the role of God in the experience of worship.  Oh yes, this is next Sunday, March 14 in the Fireside Room at 9:15 AM.

April Adult Education – Book Discussion

Explore Amish Grace with Harry Sullivan as facilitator on April 11, 18 and 25, Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the Fireside Room.  The series of discussions will focus on the following sections of the book:   April 11           Part 1

                                    April 18           Part 2

                                    April 25           Part 3

You are welcome to attend all or just some of the series.  The book, Amish Grace by Kraybill, Nolt and Weaver-Zeicher, illustrates how forgiveness can transcend tragedy:

The crime—shooting innocent schoolchildren in a one-room schoolhouse—was shockingly vicious… This remarkable book explains, exceedingly well, Amish reaction to the horrific Nickel Mines shootings… The authors carefully distinguish between forgiveness, pardon and reconciliation, as well as analyzethe complexities of mainstream America's response and the extent to which the Amish example can be applied elsewhere.

Amish Grace is now available for purchase in the church office for $16.50.  The Sonoma County Library in Sebastopol can also obtain a few copies of the book from other branches as needed.

And check out the Community Church Book Group also sponsored by Adult Education.

Adult Education also sponsors the Lenten Faith Journey & Soup Supper continuing through March 23.

Church Library News

A NEW BOOK IN THE LIBRARY

Pamela Ammondson has donated to the church library a copy of her book, CLARITY QUEST: How to Take a Sabbatical Without Taking More Than a Week Off.  The book is published by Simon and Schuster, and is also available in bookstores for those who would like to purchase their own copy.

From the introduction:  "If you are stressed out, burned out, or simply out of energy and fresh ides, this book will show you how to recharge your batteries, assess what's genuinely important in your life, and rediscover who you are and what you really want."

Pamela works with Fortune 500 and start-up companies as well as individuals.  Her book is a welcome addition to the library.

The Adult Education Committee has been working towards cataloguing the church library – a big job and a process that Linda McBride has been helping with.  The books need to be removed from the shelves, scanned and then re-shelved in the correct location.

Maybe you have a few hours here and there to help with this project – times can be arranged to suit your schedule.  Please call Linda McBride or the church office if you can help.
