Adult Ed & Copperfield’s Presents
February 25 at 7 PM at the Community Church Gerald Haslam: In Thought and Action: The Enigmatic Life of S. I. Hayakawa
One of the most gripping images from the 1960's captures Dr. S.I. Hayakawa scrambling onto an SF State sound truck. Hayakawa had hoped to use this soapbox to address assembled demonstrators, but instead he ripped out speaker wires and halted an illegal campus demonstration—or denied first-amendment rights to the crowd, depending on your perspective. This intimate and detailed biography of the one-term Republican senator who consistently bucked his party’s ideals with his support of the women’s movement draws on interviews with friends and family members, as well as Hayakawa’s own papers and journals, to bring this controversial and fascinating figure to life. Join us at the Community Church of Sebastopol to hear Gerald Haslam speak about his research and the book on Dr. S.I. Hayakawa. This event is free and open to the public.
Coming to The Community Church on April 5: Ann Lamott at 7:30 PM in the sanctuary. Presented by the Committee for Adult Education and Copperfield’s Books.
